We were thrilled to welcome Prof. Jim Khan, internationally renowned colorectal surgeon and co-director of VIMARS (Victory Institute of Minimal Access Surgery), to our Shanghai HQ for his first series of preclinical labs with the modular Carina™ Platform. As a leading expert in robotic and laparoscopic surgery, Prof. Khan brought invaluable insight and experience to our team.

Based out of Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust and the University of Portsmouth, Prof. Khan specializes in treating a wide range of disorders affecting the small intestine, colon, and rectum, with deep expertise in bowel cancer surgery. He is globally recognized for his mastery in robotic and laparoscopic surgery as well as his commitment to advancing medical education and clinical training.

Despite this being his first time using Carina, Prof. Khan quickly adapted after just a few minutes on our dry model and seamlessly transitioned into performing procedures. Over the course of the next few hours, he successfully completed a lower anterior resection and a right hemicolectomy.

Prof. Khan pointed out the ergonomic console design, high transferability of his existing robotic skillset, and quick learning curve. Reflecting on his experience, he commented: "I'm really impressed. For the first time trying the system, it is very, very good. The instruments are really nice. They are responsive, there is no tremor, and the movement is quite slick. Overall, very good performance."

It was invaluable to have Prof. Khan testing the capabilities of Carina with his extensive expertise in colorectal surgery.
