Ronovo Surgical Paves the Way for Sino-American Clinical-Engineering Collaboration Launches Multi-Specialty Clinical Trials for Carina™ RAS Platform

"We did two cases, and both went flawlessly - the system worked very well. We were able to use the vision system and the instruments without any issue. It was very similar to what we are used to with the robotic systems that we use."

It has been six months since Prof. Vipul Patel's interview with Ronovo in June. During that time, Carina has rapidly progressed from the pre-clinical research to clinical trials.

Commenting on his previous visit to China, Prof. Patel praised the rapid rise of the surgical robot industry in China. The development speed and innovative concepts of Ronovo left a profound impression on him. This month, Prof. Patel returns to participate in a three-day cross-border clinical-engineering collaboration with Ronovo.

During the latest visit, Prof. Patel was also invited to speak at the "Healthy China Lecture Tour - Prostate Cancer Precision Diagnosis and Treatment Demonstration" symposium at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center

Additionally, Prof. Patel and his team were granted temporary licenses to perform surgery in China. This marked Prof. Patel’s first time conducting urological surgeries using Carina.

With almost no learning curve, Prof. Patel's team efficiently completed the preoperative preparation of the modular bedside robotic arms within three to five minutes. This is attributed to the rich robotic surgery experience of the surgeons as well as the innovative design and user-friendliness of the Carina system.

Subsequently, Prof. Patel formally performed urological surgery using Carina. The surgical cases involved two elderly patients with prostate cancer, for whom robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy was recommended.

To preserve postoperative urinary and sexual function, Prof. Patel opted for a nerve-sparing approach for the radical prostatectomy, protecting the neurovascular bundles. With the Carina system providing high-definition 3D viewing, even the intricate details of tissues in tight spaces remained clear. This facilitated precise manipulation of the robotic arms, accurate dissection, and removal of target tissues, allowing for maximal preservation of functional tissues. The "triple victory" of urinary control, tumor control, and preservation of sexual function was achieved, maximizing surgical benefits for the patients.

Prof. Patel is an internationally renowned expert in minimally invasive urological robotic surgery, having completed over 17,000 robotic surgeries to date. As a member of the International Clinical Advisory Board at Ronovo, he has provided valuable clinical support for the development of Carina.
