Ronovo Surgical Launches Carina™ Platform at Major Medical Conferences across China
SHANGHAI, CHINA -- Ronovo Surgical recently debuted its Carina Platform at multiple prominent medical conferences across China spanning various specializations. These milestone events represent significant steps in the company's journey towards commercialization in the Chinese market next year. Carina has garnered widespread acclaim from experts in urology, gynecology, and gastrointestinal surgery.
A Breakthrough in Modular Design
Carina features an innovative modular design that delivers flexibility, adaptability, and cost-effectiveness. Featuring independent patient carts, a range of instruments, and flexible visualization options, the system allows for customizable configurations that address diverse clinical needs. This design enhances anatomical reach and access, minimizes instrument collisions, and adapts to OR workflows across surgical specialties, leading to an overall improvement in the surgical experience.
Accolades across Surgical Specialties
In May, Carina was introduced to leading urological surgeons and clinicians at the 2024 Chinese Urological Association Robotics Symposium, chaired by Academician Xu Zhang from the renowned Beijing 301 Hospital. Attendees from esteemed institutions in Fujian, Jiangxi, and Shanghai praised Carina for its compact size, flexible configurations, and operational efficiency. After personally test-driving the system, Academician Zhang commended Carina for its modular design and clinical performance: “This modularized surgical robot takes up little space, is easy to move, and its unique flexible positioning and compatible configurations make surgical maneuvers more comfortable. Safe, precise, and reliable – the Carina Platform can definitely meet the needs of clinical use.”
In June, Carina was prominently featured at the10th Jiangxi Province Gastrointestinal and Minimally Invasive Surgery Forum, attended by over 100 top general surgery experts in China. Chaired by Prof. Taiyuan Li, Chief of General Surgery at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, who has completed more than 4,000 robotic-assisted surgeries, the conference included a live demonstration where Prof. Li performed a total gastrectomy with severe adhesions using Carina with 4K 3D laparoscopy and fluorescence imaging. He highlighted Carina’s precision and versatility in managing complex surgeries and adaptability to existing operating room setups, particularly noting its compatibility with mainstream laparoscopic vision towers. Prof. Li concluded that Carina simplified surgical tasks and enhanced the patient experience.
In July, the 17th Annual Meeting of the Chinese Physicians Associations of Surgeons (CCS 2024) showcased Carina to over 11,000 attendees. Prof. Taiyuan Li presented clinical trial data demonstrating Carina’s benefits in preoperative preparation, intraoperative maneuvers, and patient outcomes in gastrointestinal surgery. He favorably compared Carina’s modular design to traditional single-pedestal architectures, emphasizing its space efficiency, simplified setup, improved maneuverability, and more convenient bedside access, which contribute to enhanced surgical efficiency. Many surgeons at the conference applauded Carina for its flexibility, responsiveness, and compatibility with various vision systems and energy platforms.
In August, Carina was introduced to gynecology surgeons at the Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of the Chinese Medical Doctors Associations (COGA 2024). Prof. Mei Ji from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University presented clinical trial data on Carina in gynecologic surgeries. She discussed the benefits she of operating with Carina, including a lower learning curve, flexible configurability, and reduced economic burden for patients. The system's modular design allowed her team to customize the surgical setup and improve space utilization in the operating room. Preclinical and clinical data demonstrated that Carina’s performance is comparable to current surgical robots used in gynecology. Surgeons from Peking Union Medical College Hospital and Shanghai Renji Hospital also praised Carina for addressing cost considerations by offering laparoscopic instruments in addition to wristed instruments. Overall, Carina received strong support from gynecologic surgeons for its performance in complex procedures and its innovative design.
