“Perfect” – that’s what Dr. Gustavo Soares, President of the Brazilian Hernia Society, had to say about his abdominal wall repair experience on the Carina Platform.
We recently had the privilege of hosting a cadaver lab series in Shanghai with Dr. Soares, who came ready to explore Carina’s full potential for configurability and adaptability.
An expert in minimally invasive abdominal wall reconstruction, Dr. Soares demonstrated his creativity in using a variety of 3-arm configurations that collectively showcased Carina’s unique modular advantage in performing multi-quadrant work.
He was especially pleased with Carina’s precision and reach, which allowed him to preserve vital structures and fascia while dissecting extensively in anticipation of making room for large meshes like those used in complex hernia repairs.
Highlight of the day: After using a single configuration to reach from diaphragm all the way to the pubis, Dr. Soares concluded that Carina has the potential to complete a bilateral inguinal hernia repair and a ventral hernia repair in one docking.
By the end of the lab, Dr. Soares had performed all the maneuvers necessary to feel confident in Carina’s performance on ventral hernia repairs using eTEP and/or TAR techniques as well as inguinal hernia repairs (including bilateral) using the TAPP approach.
We are grateful to Dr. Soares for his invaluable expertise and insight. The wisdom and support from thought leaders like him are critical in our efforts to bring the unique advantages of True Modularity to minimally invasive surgery across the globe!
